Going Green

The phrase "a green company" is often tossed around without a specific definition. What does it mean? We believe in order to be green it is a combination of paradigm and action.

First: approaching each situation with environmental impact in mind.

Second: making choices to minimize or eliminate that impact.

How is this manifested at the Slab Lab?

- we separate glass, plastic, metal and paper from our waste stream for recycling

- we reuse or "self-recycle" materials in the shop

- we carefully measure each pour to reduce excess concrete production

- we have upgraded our old installation truck to a clean diesel model with twice the gas mileage

- we use locally available materials whenever possible

- we use local post-industrial glass in some of our pieces

- we use post-industrial cement replacements to reduce our carbon footprint

- we pre-treat our wastewater before discharge

- we use water-based sealers that are safe to apply and safe once applied

It is our intent, whenever possible, to make choices for the environment without sacrificing the quality of our products.
